From a two-camera interview to a 26-camera concert special, multicamera production is being used more now than ever before. And with so many camera types, codecs and editing workflows for filmmakers to chose from, it’s hard not to suffer from Multicamera Madness!

The Multi-Camera Shoot. Most of the time when you think of video production, you think of shooting with one camera, film style, and taking your raw footage back to your editing suite for post-production editing. The very thought of trying to control multiple cameras can cause some people to break out in hives.

Programme format: There are different formats to multi-camera productions; live events, public events, studio productions etc.

Multi-Camera production uses more than the one camera, using more than one camera has its advantages. Using multi-camera allows people to: Cover more area as there are more cameras, Use different shots for each camera, Be able to see reactions and emotions through different angles.

Stepping into multi-camera video shooting is a “next level” in video production and essential for some types of videography. The level of sophistication you need will, of course, vary depending on what you’re producing and how often you’ll be doing it.

In this essay I will be talking about single camera techniques used in Film and TV production. I will be explaining the advantages and the disadvantages as well as what popular genres use single camera techniques. I will be comparing some of the techniques to multi-camera production explaining how they are different from each other. Lets get.

So what is the difference between a multi-camera and a single camera production? The difference between single camera and a multi-camera production is the use of several cameras simultaneously recording at the same time instead of just the one. Multi-camera is used to film genres such as chat shows, sports, concert and public events.

The use of multi camera dates back to the very earliest days of television itself when three cameras were used to broadcast the Queens Messenger, all the way back in 1928. The BBC has used multi camera production for their live television shows from 1936 onwards.

Multi Camera Formats. There are many formats of a multi camera setup. The first one is a game show format. In a multi camera format for a game show that there is up to 10 angles which you can see in a game show. There are a variety of angles which people could see is a close up, medium shot, medium close up and a wide shot.

Single Camera Production Techniques In this essay, I will be writing about Single Camera Techniques. I will be looking at how various different components such as lighting and sound affect shots when using just a single camera and how it differs from using multiple cameras.
